Giving skills for efficient management of business
-
Creating a base for the graduates to proceed to higher business management professional courses in the university.
|
Rationale |

As a result of stiff competition in the market, all forms of business require professional management. While the public universities have concentrated in providing degrees in this area, a real gap has been noticed at the Diploma level. Before the temporary closure of most of the programmes in the Department of Extra-Mural studies in 1988, many useful courses were offered to the general public. The Public has continued to ask for more courses that are taught and examined by the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />University of Nairobi. The extra mural departmnet offers a special connection in training, to the university and the general public.
This course, which is both theoretical and practical, gives the university the opportunity to enter this field and provide business training throughout the country. It aims at filling the gaps identified above and is orientated to meet real needs of the labour market. |

It has now been generally accepted that human resource is a major, if not the most important resource in an organization. As <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Kenya embarks on the industrialization process it requires individuals who may have had a chance of attaining a University degree yet they need middle level training to enable them function productively in their organizations. The course will be available at all the Extra-Mural Centres i.e. Mombasa, Kisumu, Nyeri, Nakuru, Nairobi and Kakamega through the face to face mode. Later the course will be also offered through the distance learning mode.
This course will fill a gap in training need and will enable the University of Nairobi to contribute to the Human Resource development in Kenya. It will also enable the University of Nairobi to access its training to all deserving persons all over the country.
Other training institutions other than the University of Nairobi examine the current course of Personnel Management offered. Potential diploma students have been requesting for a diploma course offered and examined by the University of Nairobi |

Introduction |
The Faculty of External Studies proposes to offer a Diploma in Business management. The course will be offered initially in the Department of Extra-Mural Studies and therefore it will be available all over the country. |
objectives of the course |
The Diploma in Business management aims at:-
-
Developing the human resources base needed for industrialization.
-
Giving skills for efficient management of business
-
Creating a base for the graduates to proceed to higher business management professional courses in the university.
|
Rationale |
The purpose of Diploma in Business management is to train persons who wish to purse career in business management.
