ReadyToWork Programme launched at UoN

Barclays Bank Kenya has today, 30th October 2015 launched the ReadyToWork programme at the University of Nairobi. The ReadyToWork Programme is a free online platform that offers a curriculum for certificate courses that will impart skills required in the job market, key among them; People, Work, Entrepreneurial and Money skills. The programme targets students in institutions of higher learning and people preparing to join the job market. The event attracted over 200 students from across 6 colleges within the University of Nairobi.

The launch was presided over by Mr. Jeremy Awori; Managing Director, Barclays Bank- Kenya.  In his speech, he noted the huge role the ReadyToWork programme will play in preparing students to adapt to the job market. He said the programme will be a great platform for students aged between 18-24 years to acquire skills that will give them a competitive edge as they seek to join the workforce. The programme also has resources that can benefit professionals seeking to better their careers. Mr. Awori gave a brief demonstration on how the platform works and encouraged students to sign up for the programme. Students can access the portal through:

The Deputy Vice chancellor, Student Affairs, Prof. Isaac Mbeche also read a speech on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. In the speech, the Vice Chancellor expressed his excitement and honor of hosting the launch of the ReadyToWork programme. He acknowledged the programme will help students cultivate key skills that are critical to one’s career development and personal growth. He also urged students to seek out knowledge and experiences that build on their skills. He concluded by assuring students of the University’s commitment to providing resources and knowledge to ensure that students graduating from the University of Nairobi are highly regarded both regionally and globally.

After the speeches, students were divided into small working groups where staff from Barclays Bank held mentorship sessions with the students.
