Varsity holds 9th Open Day

The University of Nairobi has opened its doors to the public for the 9th Open Day. The 3-day event running from January 17th - 19th , 2019 is being held at the Great Court, Main Campus. All colleges and central administration units have set up camp at the event, meeting and engaging both internal and external stakeholders.

 

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Chargee D’Affairs, Diplomatic Mission of Portugal in Nairobi, Luisa Fragoso and the Chair of Council of the University of Nairobi, Prof. Julia Ojiambo.

In her remarks, Ms. Fragoso highlighted the collaboration between the university and the Portuguese government.

“Portuguese classes will be offered at this University. We not only want to teach the language but also have cultural exchange programmes,” she said. “The collaboration seeks to broaden the ties between the academic fraternity and the Portuguese government. I acknowledge the university choir which sang the Portuguese anthem at our Independence Day. Indeed, the university of Nairobi is the best institution offer this programme. We hope to establish a learning centre.”

Potential students interacting with UoN Staff on courses offered 

In her remarks, Prof. Ojiambo called on prospective students to join the university.

“To you prospective student, it is at this University that you will have the ultimate campus experience, one that is well rounded,” she said. “I wish to assure you all that the University has received all the necessary accreditations including those from the Commission for University Education. Our students are taught by highly qualified lecturers including over 450 professors. The University has state-of-the-art facilities and modern equipment that aid the teaching, learning and research. Our extra-curricular activities that range from sports, to clubs to the arts, equip our students extra life skills that go beyond books and examinations.”

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Julius Ogeng’o said that Open Days offer increased access to sustainable quality higher education through quality assurance enhancement and information service.

“Open days are invaluable and provide prospective students with momentous experience of what it feels like to be in a university.  Parents and students will find it easy and convenient to interact with our professors and current students about the requirements of your preferred course,” he said. “It acts as an eye-opener and gives you some insights on the relevant courses and options in   your priority list. You will also be able to see various extra-curricular activities that take place here and find out where you can excel.”

Partners participating at the Open Day include the Higher Education Loans Board, Institute of Human Resource Management, European Union, Kenya National Examinations Council and Media School Africa.

The student organizations present are University of Nairobi Students Association, AIESEC, WOSWA, Nairobi University Arts Students Association and University of Nairobi Arts Tourism Students Society.
