The Commission of University Education held a two-day quality audit at the College of education and External studies. The inspection was mainly focused on the school based programmes in the institution where concerns had been raised to the commission on the status of the school based graduates.

The commission is expected to give its recommendations to the government after reviewing the inspection report on whether the programmes should be enhanced further or be abolished.

UoN 55th Graduation Ceremony to be held on September 2nd, 2016.

Graduands will be drawn from the colleges of Education and External Studies (CEES), Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS), Architecture and Engineering (CAE) and Agriculture and Veterinary Studies (CAVS).

This will be the 55th graduation ceremony since its inception. In the last graduation ceremony held in December 2015, UoN awarded 8,861 degrees and diplomas.

The date was set during the first graduation committee meeting held on 23rd June, 2016.The preparation for the ceremony that is set to host over 14,000 students and guardians has kicked off.  All the participating colleges and all the heads of central units were present during the planning committee meeting held at the Confucius Institute, University of Nairobi, Education building.

The Government Increases Capitation to the University of Nairobi by Kshs. 100M to Promote Innovation

Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the republic of Kenya and the commander-in chief of the defense forces announced the increase when he officially launched the 2nd annual Nairobi Innovation Week at Taifa Hall on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

The president applauded the university of Nairobi for remaining top in innovation and leading as an example to other institution of higher learning, in his speech he asked the heads of other institution of learning to borrow a leaf from the set example at Innovation week. He acknowledged the importance of innovations citing that through innovation and creativity such us MPESA, Kenya has received two awards in Africa, Kenya continues to lead in East Africa region in innovations. The head of the state also noted that Kenya needs more innovations from sectors like Agriculture, Security, Health among others.

The President also noted that there is was need to be better link between Academia, Researchers, Private Sectors and Financial Service Sectors. He said, ‘‘If we ever hope to get full value, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to see people’s lives improved or changed by innovations.’’ The head of state challenged the youths to be part of the innovations because the government wants to support young skills and imaginations. He also noted that there was need to improve teaching science based courses.

Members of staff under the principal’s office held a successful team building exercise on Wednesday 29th, June 2016. The afternoon event held at the campus grounds attracted students and other members of staff from various departments in the college.

 Graced by the college principal Prof.  Isaac Jumba, in his remarks acknowledges the importance of a teambuilding to enhance team spirit hence meeting our objectives.

The day’s activities were conducted by a team from sports and games department; Mrs. Rose Marete and Mr. Tony Wachira.

A section of the Deparment of Educational Communication and Technology academic staff today attended training on Turnitin and ORCID. The training was organised by the College of Education and External Studies, UoN Library and ICT Centre. In line with the University of Nairobi's Plagiarism policy, all academic staff will be required to use the Turnitin antiplagiarism software during supervision of postgraduate students to monitor levels of plagiarism in the student's and their own research works, a reason that necissitated the training. The staff will use the ORCID tool to connect to other researchers from other institution and funders. The rest of the academic staff will attend the training tomorrow, Friday, 12/6/2016.

The Department of Physical Education and Sports in partnership with the Kenya Little League held a baseball coaching clinic. The event was held from 11th to 14th September, 2017 at the college grounds and attended mostly by the students pursuing Bachelor of Education (Physical Education). This was a good opportunity for them since it was an added advantage in line to their course program hence will enable them become more marketable in their careers once they graduate.

The heart 2 heart foundation is a local medical charity which was
founded in 1993, with a mission to control, prevent and treat heart
diseases in children in Kenya. It is housed within the Karen Hospital
and normally raises funds to support children from less fortunate
background with heart diseases for treatment.
The Kenya Science Nursery School normally participates during their yearly
runs/walk to raise funds through our parents.  During this year’s heart
