Over 3900 graduands conferred with various degrees and awards of diplomas at the 59th graduation ceremony.

The 59th graduation ceremony held on Friday, september 14, 2018 at the chancellor’s court at 7.00 a.m was a unique one. The congregation and the entire country witnessed Prof. Julius Alexander Ogeng’o awarded Post-Doctoral Degree. He becomes the fifth to be awarded at the University.

Dr. Vijoo Rattansi who presided over the ceremony welcomed the newly appointed University council led by Prof. Julia Ojiambo. Dr. Rattansi thanked the Cabinet secretary for Eduation, Amb. Amina Mohamed for instituting the process that led to the appointment of the council.

Speaking at the ceremony Cabinet secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed congratulated the newly appointed council and the ministry will soon fill the various vacant council positions. The CS challenged the university to streamline, simplify and create awareness on commercialization of knowledge. She said ‘I believe the University should lead in providing more creative, bold and innovative approaches to development than we currently employ, Research has shown that harnessing of research outputs and assets can easily transform the economic health of our institutions.’

The vice chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi speaking at the ceremony said, ‘As a university, we want to renew and rededicate ourselves to the pursuit of excellence. Our priorities for the future will be centered around enriching the learning and research experience for students, growing our research portfolio and commercialization of research outputs, expanding the internationalization agenda of every facet of the University.’ ‘To our graduates, we value you. We send you into a turbid world. As we do so, we habour the unwavering hope that you will soar on wings like eagles; that you will run and not grow weary, that you will walk and not be faint.’

Among the 3900 graduands at the 59th graduation Ceremony, The College of Education and External studies produced 566 graduates;
